Welcome to the Pausanias project

A site with more than 3000 photos and maps with descriptions of classical, but also of later Greece. The site has been set up to illustrate the Dutch translation by J. Abbenes (Soest 2012) of the description of ancient Greece by the Greco-Roman author Pausanias (150 AD) and therefore follows its division into 9 regions. The site is regularly revised and expanded and covers all 9 regions of Greece, with detailed information, maps and other facts for each region. History pages provide a global picture of Greece after Pausanias.
