Amphikleia

Nowadays there is not much to be seen of the ancient town of Amphikleia. The ancient acropolis was located just past the modern village (Dadí, renamed Amfíklia), near the church of the Panagía, where the cemetery is now located. Near the acropolis probably was the sanctuary of Dionysus mentioned by Pausanias. There are no antique remains except a single tower. At a distance of 3.5 km. Mycenaean and sub-Mycenaean tombs were uncovered, while geometric tombs were also found elsewhere. The photos show the remains of Amphikleia’s acropolis.
