Museum Kerameikos

The (renewed) Kerameikos museum mainly houses the many funerary monuments from the area, a beautiful kouros, many dozens of vases, including some of the smaller Dipylon vases, several tombstones with relief decoration (such as the beautiful Dexileos stele and the Ampharete-stele), a marble sphinx, a lion, a bull that also served as a burial decoration and in addition countless red and black-figure vases, usually given with the dead in the tomb. The quality of these grave decorations is often astonishing and a visit to the museum is certainly worthwhile. The funerary monuments (a purely personal choice) are listed here in chronological order.
