A brief history of Greece after Pausanias should enable the visitors to Greece to orientate themselves amidst the countless non-classical buildings that the country has to offer. It is also the intention to provide a background for persons, places or buildings mentioned in the commentary on Pausanias from the time after Pausanias. In view of the purpose of this website, the aim is purely to illustrate the countless architectural monuments from southern Greece, and then only the mainland, exactly in the regions Pausanias described. Completeness is virtually impossible, although an update of the website with new data will appear every 3 months. The following periods are distinguished here:
